 what will be the benefit

With Google's Drive for Destop app, users will be able to access their files directly from the cloud on their PC or Mac.  In this case your PC's disc will be free.  Also save network bandwidth, as Drive files will be stored on the cloud.

If you make any changes to this drive file, it will automatically happen everywhere.  According to Google's blog post, you will continue to be provided with the latest version of Google Drive.

In the new app, users will also be able to save external files.  Meaning users will be able to save the data of the external device in the Drive for desktop app.
