After getting the vaccine to protect against corona, some such cases are also coming which are worrying the doctors.  The vaccine has caused a sudden rise in blood sugar in some patients, especially in diabetic patients.  The common side effects of Covishield include fatigue, chills, headache, fever and flu-like symptoms.  Symptoms like abdominal pain, enlargement of lymph nodes, itching or rash are also being seen in some people.

But Delhi's Fortis C-Doc Center of Excellence for Diabetes Hospital said that recently 7-8 cases of increased blood sugar due to vaccine have been reported.  There is also a 58 year old woman who has type 2 diabetes for the last 20 years.  According to the report, this woman took the first doll of Coveshield on 4 March.  Dr Anoop Mishra, President, Fortis C-Doc said, "Before the vaccine, the blood glucose level of this woman was completely under control through medicines and diet, but after the vaccine, it was found to increase for a month.

The dose of the woman's diabetes drug metformin had to be increased.  Another 64-year-old male took the first dose of CoveShield on January 18.  His blood pressure increased from 130/80 mm Hg to 160/90 mm Hg.  One such case is also of another 65-year-old male, where his blood sugar increased after getting the vaccine, which became normal on its own without any effort in 15 days.

Doctors at the hospital say that the increase in high blood pressure or any change in blood glucose was not reported in the vaccine trial data.  According to the journal report, 'In all three cases, good diet and exercise helped to control glycemic for a long time.  In these cases, all causes of elevated blood glucose were excluded.  It is likely that due to the vaccine, their blood glucose level suddenly increased.

Dr Mishra said, “The good thing is that in all these cases, the blood sugar level automatically came back to the right level and there was no need to make any major changes in the treatment.  However, diabetic patients should be careful about sudden increase in blood sugar or blood pressure.  Any major problem can be prevented by being alert.  The Indian Council of Medical Research had also released a Kovid guideline for people suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure in March this year.

It was said in the guideline that in the corona crisis, sugar, BP, heart patients should continue all regular medicines.  Do not stop taking medicines unless the doctors give any other advice.  ECMR said that no evidence has been found that blood pressure drugs increase the severity of corona.  Blood pressure medicines are effective for the heart.  These drugs are very effective in controlling high blood pressure and preventing heart failure.
